DNA tests of old rape kits identify up to 277 suspects locally

State testing of old rape kits that once languished at police agencies have identified up to 277 potential sexual-assault suspects in Franklin and surrounding counties. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine released the numbers Friday as the Bureau of Criminal Investigation completed an initiative to test the rape kits to see if any yield matches with DNA profiles of criminal in the state database and identify suspects for further investigation.
