DeWine appoints panel to examine how student loans are collected

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has appointed an advisory group to look at student loan debt collection practices that have resulted in former students being wrongfully sued and stuck with large collection fees that were tacked on to their smaller debts. The 15-member committee will have its first meeting at 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at DeWine’s office. DeWine promised to create the group last month after The Dispatch reported on the debt-collection practices.
