Death of truant to alter custody rules

Truancy centers in the city have begun taking extra steps to make sure youths are not released to family members who don’t have custody or guardianship, a program official said on Friday. The procedural review comes after The Dispatch reported last week that a truant foster teen who did not disclose that he was in the custody of Franklin County Children Services was picked up by his mother on Nov. 17 at the truancy center in the Feddersen Community Recreation Center.
