Cost, other barriers keep some hepatitis patients from treatment

Mike Carter tried to rid his body of hepatitis C twice before, using miserable and less-effective treatments that came before a new class of drugs that is reshaping how the potentially fatal liver disease is found and treated. Carter, 63, of Delaware, is one of the new success stories. But not everyone who could benefit is getting the costly medications, and not everyone who could benefit knows that they even have hepatitis C.
