Community Shelter Board assesses homelessness in Franklin County

The Community Shelter Board went out Wednesday morning to count the number of homeless men, women and children in Franklin County.This yearly count is part of a nationwide point-in-time count done every January, as part of a requirement from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.The homelessness count was conducted in shelters, on downtown streets and known encampments and soup kitchens.Street teams were out between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m.In 2016’s count, 1,724 homeless people wer
