Commissioners approve 'living wage' for Franklin County employees

Hundreds of Franklin County employees are in line for wage bumps after commissioners approved new pay levels that set a minimum “living wage” for employees. A county consultant calculated the living wage — based on a formula devised by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology — to be $13.69 an hour for a worker who is part of a household with two adults and two children. Commissioners plan to pay starting employees that wage and adjust the pay for hundreds of others.
