Columbus man gets 18 years on prostitution, gun charges

A man who pleaded guilty in April to transporting a prostitute across state lines and illegally possessing a gun was sentenced on Monday to more than 18 years in prison by a federal court judge. Carl. R. Smith Jr., 31, had been indicted in 2014 on seven counts in U.S. District Court in Columbus, but he pleaded guilty to the gun-possession and transporting a prostitute charge as part of a plea agreement.
