Coal-mine damage under Rt. 33 to affect traffic near Nelsonville

NELSONVILLE, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Transportation is preparing to fill and stabilize coal-mine voids lurking beneath Rt. 33 that are causing a stretch of the pavement in Athens County to sag. The telltale sign of the underground spaces is a dip in the westbound lanes of Rt. 33 just south of the Nelsonville bypass.
