Capitol Insider: Latin teacher’s support spurred retiring state superintendent

Recalling the path that led to his 40-year career in education, retiring Ohio state Superintendent Richard A. Ross credited his high-school Latin teacher, Helen Heller. Ross, 65, grew up in rural northwestern Ohio. His father died in his senior year, and Ross’ plans after graduation were to get a job, perhaps at the local foundry, and save up to buy a “fancy” car to impress the ladies. But Mrs. Heller had other ideas.
