Bridges require special care when they travel over protected Ohio waterways

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Chris Mullins crawled along the temporary catwalk and peered up at the bottom of the 104-year-old Florence Bridge. He saw only daylight in places where there should have been iron. The Pickaway County engineer knew what he had to do that afternoon of Feb. 5. Mullins immediately closed the iron-truss bridge that spans the Big Darby Creek on McLean Mill Road in Jackson Township.
