Backyard chickens spur debate in central Ohio communities
Karen Bailey didn’t intend to ruffle any feathers when she brought the seven tiny chicks into her suburban backyard. Her crafty son built a wooden coop and they tucked it behind her garage on Coronation Avenue in Gahanna. The young birds grew into hens and became pets with perks, producing plenty of fresh eggs, companionship and entertainment. Then she learned they were illegal.
