AEP reports quarterly profits of $519 million

American Electric Power has posted an increase in profit and sales for the third quarter, helped by rising electricity use across most of its territory. The Columbus-based utility this morning reported profit of $519 million, up from $493 million in the prior-year quarter, and sales of $4.4 billion, up from $4.2 billion.
