FirstEnergy Solutions cancels NOPEC contract serving 500,000

FirstEnergy Solutions has cancelled its contract, effective Jan. 1, 2017,with the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council, or NOPEC, to supply power to 500,000 customers at a discount. The company on Friday sent notices to NOPEC as well as city officials in 12 counties. The company said it had been trying to renegotiate the contract, which was to have run through 2019.
