FirstEnergy hoping DOE and Ohio will save its power plants
FirstEnergy needs more money from its customers to continuing operating its old power plants because, it claims, they do not compete with new gas turbine plants and wind farms. The company is asking for a change in Ohio law for a rate increase only for its nukes. And the company is hoping the Trump administration, which is trying to protect coal, will change the rules that competitive wholesale markets rely on to choose the least cost power for customers.
