Former LA Councilman Alex Padilla Formally Appointed To US Senate

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Former Los Angeles City Councilman Alex Padilla resigned Monday as California secretary of state and was formally appointed by the governor to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
Last month, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that he would be appointing Padilla to Harris’ seat, making him the first Latino to represent California in the Senate.
Harris formally resigned her Senate seat Monday, days ahead of her Wednesday inauguration
