Researchers lay out plans for Tonawanda Coke contamination study

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) — How polluted is the soil around the Tonawanda Coke plant? How far does the contamination run from the facility on River Road? Those are among the questions researchers from the University at Buffalo have as part of a $11.4 million study that’s now underway.
Saturday marked the first meting of what is expected to be several public meetings to begin testing the soil in the city and town of Tonawanda and Grand Island.
