Prosecutor: Former Assembly Speaker made millions of dollars in schemes

NEW YORK (AP) — A federal prosecutor says former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver was involved in bribery schemes that made him millions of dollars.
In closing arguments Monday at Silver’s corruption trial, Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Goldstein told jurors that the evidence shows that Silver took kickbacks in exchange for supporting legislation that helped a medical researcher and real estate developers. The defense was to give its closing argument later in the day.
