Memorial with forgotten soldier’s name unveiled in Gowanda

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A western New York soldier who died in the Pacific during World War II will finally have his name added to the war memorial in his hometown.
Carroll Heath’s name was left off Gowanda’s WWII memorial when it was dedicated in the village in 1945. The Army private is believed to have died three years earlier while a prisoner of the Japanese in the Philippines. His burial place remains unknown.
