Lake effect snow causes near whiteout in Fredonia, Dunkirk areas

FREDONIA, N.Y. (WIVB)- Officially, the first day of winter isn’t until Dec. 21., but if you ask residents of Fredonia they’d tell you Thursday was it’s arrival.
Shopkeepers on Main and Temple Streets in downtown Fredonia were busy shoveling sidewalks, but there wasn’t much business. The few people out walking were met with strong winds and heavy snowfall mixed with hail.
