Cheektowaga man sentenced for killing girlfriend, burning body

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Cheektowaga man will spend 23 years in prison after strangling his girlfriend last year.
Sometime between April 22-24, 2015, Thomas Murphy, 59, killed Jean Hartwig, 63, and set her body on fire inside their home at Williamstowne Senior Apartments.
He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and arson in October.
In addition to prison time, Murphy was also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision.
