Army’s first female general, born in Buffalo, dies
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The United States’ first female Army general, a native of Buffalo, has died.
Anna Mae Hays was born in the Queen City and served during World War II as a front-line nurse. She was stationed in Korea.
Hays achieved the rank of brigadier general in 1970, being promoted from colonel.
Her cause of death was a heart attack. She was 97.
