Advisories, warnings and bans issued as WNY faces its first big snowstorm

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A band of clouds creeping off Lake Erie dumped significant amounts of snow on parts of western New York, mucking up traffic in their wake.
Near Lake Erie, a dangerous combination of wind and snow buffeted the lake shore, creating an icy mix on roads, prompting officials to close Route 5 for multiple hours.
The dangerous mix created a photo of interest across the nation as waves crashed onto a vehicle parked nearby, trapping it in ice.
