Taft City Council bans bath salts

The Taft City Council passed an ordinance Tuesday night banning bath salts.

Bath salts are drugs that contain synthetic chemicals that are similar to amphetamines.

Some, but not all, of the chemicals used to make them are illegal.

Exactly which chemicals are in the drugs isn't known, but the effects can include agitation, paranoia, hallucinations, chest pain, increased pulse, high blood pressure, and suicidal thinking and behavior.
