State fines PG&E for massive gas explosion

BAKERSFIELD, CA - State regulators have handed down a record $1.6 billion fine to PG&E for the massive gas line explosion in San Bruno.
The California Public Utilities Commission said it's the largest penalty it has ever assessed.     The CPUC said the fine is for the unsafe operation of PG&E's gas transmission system, including the pipeline rupture in San Bruno in 2010 that killed eight people.
