Report: Local homeless population declined in 2015

The 2015 Homeless Census counted 953 individuals, reflecting a 4% decline from 2014, and a 38% decrease since 2007.

The census was conducted Thursday, January 22 through Friday, January 23. The Kern County Homeless Collaborative canvassed shelters and the streets with 200 workers and volunteers.

Interviews were conducted with more than 1,500 people who each received a hygiene kit, a snack and a pair of clean socks, the KCHC reported.
