But there's no disputing the fact that Daniel Ellsberg is an icon of the Nixon years who risked everything in 1971 to leak the now-famous Pentagon Papers, top-secret government documents that showed successive presidential administrations had lied to the public and Congress about U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.
