New solar plant is second largest of its kind

A Spanish company has begun operation of a new solar power plant near Edwards Air Force Base believed to be the second-largest of its kind in the world.
Abengoa's $1.6 billion Mojave Solar Project opened late last year using parabolic mirrors to focus sunlight on a fluid-filled tube. The heat creates steam used to generate 280 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 90,000 homes.
