McFarland dedicates park to legendary coach

McFarland has dedicated a local park to the man that helped get the small town to the big screen. Thursday, the McFarland Tri-Agency Partners and the City of McFarland dedicated the West Kern Avenue Green Space to Coach Jim White. He is the coach of the legendary 1987 McFarland cross-country team that inspired the movie McFarland USA. Jim white coached nine state championship teams at McFarland before he retired in 2002. The dedication includes a bronze plaque.
