Kwanzaa celebration teaches culture, history

Bakari Sanyu, director of a cultural education nonprofit, rattled a beaded shaker the size of a cantaloupe at a Kwanzaa celebration Tuesday in Bakersfield.

Six dancers, from a Los Angele- based ensemble, extended their limbs widely in coordinated staccato movements -- drummers tapping djembe drums.
