Jury finds convicted murderer competent; will return to death row

BAKERSFIELD, CA - A Kern County jury has determined a convicted murderer was competent in 1994 and 1995 during his trial 20 years ago.  

Christopher Lightsey had been found guilty for the murder of cancer patient William Compton, 76, and had been sent to death row.  The State Supreme Court however ruled three years ago that a Kern County judge had violated state law by allowing the defendant to represent himself during a competency hearing and no attorney had been appointed. &nbs
