Highway signage for downtown examined

Plans to promote Bakersfield's historic core with updated signs on Highway 99 took a step forward Tuesday with a video-conference discussion between Caltrans representatives and downtown business officials.

It's an idea suggested 13 days ago at Bakersfield's State of the Downtown breakfast by Randal Jackson of Santa Ana-based PlaceWorks, which is creating the area's urban design plan.
