Critics file motion to shutter HECA project

BAKERSFIELD, CA.-A coalition of environmentalists and concerned neighbors have filed a motion with the California Energy Commission to terminate the certification proceeding for the Hydrogen Energy California Plant near Tupman. 

The plan is known as HECA and would burn coal to produce electricity, fertilizer and COH2 that could boost nearby oil production. 

In order for the project to qualify as clean energy, project owner SCS Energy must find a buyer for the carbon dioxide.
