County to start spraying for citrus pest

Despite it's miniscule size (1/8 of an inch) the Asian Citrus Psyllid poses one of the biggest threats to Kern County's citrus industry. The bug can carry a disease known as Huanglongbing, or citrus greening disease. The disease infects citrus trees causing bitter, misshapen fruit and eventually kills the tree. At this time there is no cure.
