Correctional officer hit by bullet fired from outside prison grounds

A North Kern State Prison correctional officer was struck and injured by gunfire that came from outside the facility Monday evening. Prison officials said the officer was hit at 7:30 p.m. from bullets fired into the Delano prison's Facility A yard. A bullet penetrated his stab-resistant vest and he was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
