City/county plan for Canyons land falls through

A deal that could have turned the ill-fated Canyons residential development into a nature preserve and system of public trails has fallen through.

In April, the Metropolitan Bakersfield Habitat Conservation Plan Trust Group voted to buy the property out of the messy bankruptcy of the developer and project lender for $5.06 million.
