Apple company issues voluntary recall after listeria outbreak
BAKERSFIELD, CA - A Bakersfield apple company has issued a voluntary recall after a shipment was linked to an outbreak of listeria in caramel apples that may have caused up to five deaths.
The Food and Drug Administration said that Bidart Brothers of Bakersfield is recalling all Galla and Granny Smith apples shipped from its Shafter packing facility last year.
The company supplied the apples for two caramel apple brands--"Big B" and "Granny's Best."
