Package found by K9 in Austin IRS building mail room “non-harmful”

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin bomb squad members deemed a suspicious package found in the mail room of Austin’s Internal Revenue Service office as “non-harmful” Wednesday morning.
According to Austin police, an onsite dog used by the company contracted to handle the mail room alerted workers to the “shoe-sized” package around 6 a.m. at the 3651 South Interstate 35 location, near the intersection of 35 and Highway 71.
Nearly 500 people were evacuated as a precaution.
