Nearing hottest December temperature ever recorded

AUSTIN (KXAN) — If there's such a thing as a December "heat wave" - we're looking at it.Yesterday's 79 degrees in Austin came in ~15 degrees over average. Today? We climb even further above December normals. Afternoon highs will soar into the low 80s late day with Austin's forecast high of 83 degrees matching the current record last set in 2019.Why the warm up? An approaching low pressure system from northwestern Mexico is leading to asouthwesterly wind in the low-levels of the atmosphere.
