K-9 donations help boost small police departments

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A K-9 unit on a police force makes it easier to conduct drug busts and find suspects. But, getting a police dog comes with a hefty price tag—as much as $25,000—that can cut deep into a department’s budget.
That is where K9s4Cops steps in. The group raises the thousands of dollars it takes to buy and train police dogs before donating the K-9s. The group uses vendors in Europe to find and train dogs.
