Irma weakens to tropical storm, continues path of destruction through Florida
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Irma weakened to a tropical storm as of 7 a.m. Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center. But it is still capable of producing hurricane-force winds across Central Florida as it moves north toward Georgia. Currently the NHC measurements show its wind speeds are 70 mph — at 74 mph or above it would become a hurricane again. Irma is expected to turn northwest at a faster forward speed over the next 24 hours.
