Feds assure Texas $135M in CHIP funding

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The state of Texas will not be shutting down its Children’s Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, this month after learning the state will receive supplemental funding to keep the program running.
Nearly 450,000 children receive health insurance through CHIP in Texas. The federal legislation that provides states’ funding for the program, which helps children whose parents make too much money to qualify for Medicaid, expired on Sept. 30.
