Eeyore’s Birthday marks 54 years as a weird, beloved Austin tradition

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Right down the street from our station all day Saturday was one of the longest running and weirdest free annual events in Austin — Eeyore’s Birthday at Pease Park.
For 54 years, a mix of people young and old hang out on the last Saturday in April to celebrate the pessimistic Winnie the Pooh character.
The tradition dates back to 1963, when English students at the University of Texas organized a spring party and picnic in the name of Eeyore.
