Deaths reported as Amtrak train derails in Washington

TACOMA, Wash. (KXAN) — A highspeed train derailed Monday morning outside of Tacoma, Washington killing several people.
“There have been multiple casualties as a result of the Amtrak derailment near Tacoma, Washington,” Pierce County spokesman Ed Troyer said.
The train, Amtrak 501, is part of the new Amtrak Cascades route which connects Seattle to Portland. This was the train’s inaugural run along the new route before it derailed about 40 miles south of Seattle.
