Bastrop County marks five years since devastating wildfire

BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) — Sunday, September 4, 2011, is a day no one in Bastrop County will ever forget. It was the day the Bastrop County Complex Fire, the most destructive wildfire in Texas history, began.
Five years later to the day, September 4, 2016, the Bastrop County Long-Term Recovery Project organized Bastrop County Remembers to commemorate the anniversary.
“This fire was such a life changing event for the people in Bastrop County,” Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape said.
