Austin to require composting at apartment complexes, condos

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin City Council voted on Thursday to approve a rule to require multifamily residential properties (any building with five or more dwelling units) to provide disposal for compostable materials, such as food waste, starting in October 2024.Austin Resource Recovery, the city department behind the rule, calls it an important step towards a goal to reduce solid waste by 2040.
