Wrench in oil tax negotiations derails second special session
Negotiations over oil taxes derailed Wednesday after the Alaska House added a new element to House Bill 111. Lawmakers are taking up the issue in a second special session that ends Saturday.
But at this point, the Legislature will be hard-pressed to meet that deadline. At a conference committee on the measure Wednesday afternoon, members were divided both politically and physically. Half of the panel’s six members met in Anchorage, communicating telephonically with those in Juneau.
