When is shooting justified? Firearms expert weighs in

A shot fired during a theft Wednesday is raising questions about when deadly force is justified.
Anchorage police say a clerk at Smoker’s Choice fired a shot at an unarmed thief as he was running out of the store with a carton of cigarettes.
Some are praising the clerk, but Mark Guy, chief instructor at Copacetic Firearms Training, said shooting at someone who isn’t threatening anyone is illegal — even if they’re breaking the law.
