Troopers: Man killed in Chefornak fire likely Jesuit priest

ANCHORAGE — Officials have tentatively identified a St. Mary’s man as the victim of a fatal fire in Chefornak on Wednesday.
Residents of Chefornak tried to save the man from the fire, which Alaska State Troopers state in an online dispatch was reported at 9:22 a.m.
Troopers said the man is likely 72-year-old Theodore Kestler. The Catholic Diocese of Fairbanks announced online that Kestler, a Jesuit priest, was the man killed in the fire.
