New fire rages off Sterling Highway
A new wildfire began burning near the Sterling Highway Thursday evening.
The fire, named the East Fork Fire by The Division of Forestry, was discovered just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday. It’s burning about five to six miles north of the Sterling Highway in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, with a spread of roughly 150 acres.
The fire is reportedly moving away from the road, primarily fueled by black spruce, according to the Alaska Interagency Control Center.
