Man seriously injured in hammer attack

Anchorage Police are investigating an assault with a hammer that occurred early Monday morning near downtown.
Police were called to the 800 block of Karluk Street around 2:30 Monday morning on reports of someone bleeding from the head.
Officers found that several people were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated into physical violence; one man grabbed a hammer and struck another man in the head, according to authorities.
